I'm currently reacquainting myself with old favourites such as Fall Out Boy, From First to Last and Billy Talent, reminding myself of old times.
There's seriously nothing like listening to a song for the first time in ages and getting a rush of memory.
Fall Out Boy reminds me of the hours spent on MSN discussing the merits of each song and debating the video for Saturday with Joe; at one point he called me while I was at dinner with my grandparents just to tell me he'd spotted a vital clue in said video. Even years later Saturday is my favourite music video of all time.
Above all From First to Last remind me of high school and the time I spent on INO with amazing people like Erin, Amber, Nat, Chrissy, Leena, Sarah, Sock, the aforementioned Joe, Sam... I'm still in sporadic contact with some of these "internet friends"; I talk to Joe on Steam all the time and I have Sarah and Sam on facebook. Joe is the only one of these people I've met. Does that mean they're not real friends? I guess. They aren't my real life friends. I don't hang out with them. I rarely talk to many of them. But they're still my friends. Certainly in a class of their own in my mind, not in the same category as friends I can hang out with - but I still feel I know them.
Billy Talent have been a favourite for ages even if I rarely listen to them now; they remind me, oddly, of Ami and hanging out with kids younger than me while I was in sixth form. I saw them live with Ami and Nicola. That was three years ago now and still one of the best days ever.
I don't know if I want to listen to MCR, but I'm sure it's a natural graduation and I'll be reminded again of that MCR fansite I spent about a year on, from the moment it opened until our little group disbanded and everyone moved on.
Hey, I miss you guys. If you're reading, say hi.
Meanwhile I spend a lot of time these days listening to Lady Gaga, Emmy the Great and REM. Life goes on.
